CA Foundation

The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) is a statutory body set up by an act of Parliament, i.e. The Chartered Accountants Act, 1949 (Act No. XXXVIII of 1949) for the regulation of the profession of Chartered Accountancy in the country. The Institute functions under the administrative control of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Government of India and is the second-largest professional body of Chartered Accountants in the world. Over a period of time, the ICAI has accomplished recognition as a premier accountancy body not only in the country but also around the world, for maintaining highest standards in technical, ethical areas and for sustaining strict examination and education standards. CA Foundation Course is the entry level for Chartered Accountancy Course, which is popularly earlier known as CPT (Common Proficiency Test) 1) Requirements to become a Chartered Accountant (Journey from 12th to CA in summary) (i) Enrol for Foundation Course after appearing in Class 12th Examination. (Foundation Course Fee ₹ 9,200) (ii) Complete 4 months Study Period. Register till 30th June/ 31st December for being eligible to appear in November/ May Foundation Course Examination. (ii) Appear in Foundation Examination after passing in the Senior Secondary Examination (10+2 examination). (iii) Join Intermediate Course after passing Foundation Examination. (Intermediate Course Fee ₹ 18,000) (iv) Undergo Four Weeks Integrated Course on Information Technology and Soft skills (ICITSS) consisting of Courses on Information Technology and Orientation Course at the earliest but these are to be completed compulsorily before the commencement of their articleship. (v) Appear in Intermediate Examination on completion of 8 months of study course as on the first day of the month in which the examination is to be held. (vi) Join articled training after passing either of the Group or Both Groups of Intermediate Course and after successfully undergoing ICITSS. (vii) Clear the balance Group (if any) of Intermediate Examination. (viii) Register for Final Course. (Final Course Fee ₹ 22,000) (ix) Successfully undergo Four Weeks Advanced Integrated Course on Information Technology and Soft skills (AICITSS) consisting of Courses on Advanced Information Technology and Management Communication Skills during the last two years of practical training but before appearing in the Final Examination. (x) Appear in the Final Examination on completion of the practical training or while serving last 6 months of articled training on or before the last day of the month preceding the month in which the examination is to be held after successful completion of AICITSS. (xi) Complete articled training of 3 years. (xii) Pass Final Examination. (xiii) Enrol as a member of the ICAI and be designated as “Chartered Accountant”. About the CA Foundation Course : Foundation Course comprises of four papers, out of which two are subjective and two are objective type. Negative marking for choosing wrong options is there in objective papers. The Board of Studies issues comprehensive study materials covering all four subjects. A candidate has to register for Foundation Course by filling Online Registration Form available on ICAI website Click Here to Fill the Form: https://sdb.icai.org/stud/defaul.aspx While filling the online form, candidates should take care of the following: • After filling the Online Form pay the required fees online using the payment gateway. • On successful payment, the system will automatically generate the Form, which is to be printed. Following documents are to be submitted to concern Regional Office within 7 days of the date of online registration along with the print out of the online registration form, duly signed by the candidate. • The duly signed printout of online successful registration form in hard copy • Attested copy of Admit Card / Mark sheet of Class 12 examination issued by the respective Board • One recent color photograph (affixed to the printout of the online successful registration form) • Attested copy of proof of Nationality, if student is a foreigner • Attested copy of proof of special category certificate i.e. SC/ST, OBC, Differently abled. • Attested copy of the 10th Mark sheet/ Admit Card of 10th class indicating the Name & Date of Birth The form and documents are to be submitted in consonance with the address at the Regional Office of The Institute of Chartered Accountant of India. After getting registered for CA Foundation Course, students are also required to fill in the separate application form for appearing in CA Foundation Examination. Foundation Course registration is valid for 3 years and can be revalidated any number of times for further 3 years period by paying revalidation fee of Rs. 300/- or as decided by the Council from time to time. Passing criteria for Foundation Examination: CA Foundation Course candidate shall be declared to have passed the examination if he/ she obtains at one sitting a minimum of 40% marks in each paper and a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate of all the papers, subject to the principle of negative marking. Level 1) Subjects covered in Foundation Course: Paper-1: Principles and Practice of Accounting (100 Marks) Paper-2: Business Law & Business Correspondence and Reporting (100 Marks) Section A: Business Law (60 Marks) Section B: Business Correspondence and Reporting (40 Marks) Paper-3: Business Mathematics and Logical Reasoning & Statistics (100 Marks) Part I: Business Mathematics and Logical Reasoning (60 Marks) Part II: Statistics (40 Marks) Paper-4: Business Economics & Business and Commercial Knowledge (100 Marks) Part I: Business Economics (60 Marks) Part II: Business and Commercial Knowledge (40 Marks) Paper-3 and Paper-4 are objective type papers with negative marking.
